Have you ever woken up abruptly in the middle of the night and thought to yourself, “That was the craziest dream I’ve ever had?” For most people, that thought is as far as they get towards actually documenting the strange occurrence. Developer Hunter Lee Soik and his team of highly motivated innovators are working hard on fixing this problem.
The app SHADOW helps you remember and record your dreams right from your phone. It wakes you up, but the alarm gradually gets louder, easing you awake instead of violently shocking you awake. If then becomes a recording device, where you can speak directly into your phone and SHADOW will translate your voice into text so you have a written document. Can’t remember your dream? The SHADOW developers understand that this is common and have thought of a brilliant way to help. SHADOW will ask you questions about your dream if you do not remember. This entire process of waking up and recording your dream takes less than five minutes according to the developers. Along with recording your dreams, SHADOW also has a very interesting way to share them. There will be a SHADOW community, a ‘community of dreamers’, and you can opt to have all of your dreams shared with this community. You can ever choose to just share some dreams but not others, since dreams can be a very personal experience. Also the longer you use SHADOW, the more rewarding it becomes. It tracks your dreams and looks for keywords that are common. It can also add pictures to the text, so if you dreamt about Michael Jordan, SHADOW will add a picture of MJ into the dream page. The SHADOW developers are trying to develop the app for all types of mobile devices. The kickstarter they started for the app funded completely in the first week it was up. Right now they have raised enough to release it on Android and iOS, and given the rate that they are raising money currently, they will have enough to develop it on Windows Mobile devices shortly. Much of SHADOWs success so far can be traced to the creator and lead designer, Hunter Lee Soik. The design of SHADOW is beautifully simple and sleek. There are no extra buttons of intruding options menus, it was masterfully crafted to keep you calm and comfortable when you first wake up, since it will be the first thing you see each morning assuming you use it. The idea of SHADOW is so simple, yet daring and innovative at the same time. Keeping written records of your dreams is a great idea, and SHADOW makes that easier than it has ever been. Sharing your dreams is something we usually do with our close friends or relatives, with SHADOW we can share our subconscious thoughts with an entire community of dreams with one touch of a button. Daring idea indeed, but most successful apps look to change the way we live in a positive way as well as making mundane tasks simpler, SHADOW looks to achieve both.
